Canadian Journal of Neurological Sciences (CJNS) - Reviewer-in-Training Program
Are you a trainee in neurosciences who is interested in learning about what happens once a manuscript is submitted to a journal? The Canadian Journal of Neurological Sciences has a new Reviewer-in-Training Program.
Goals and benefits of the Reviewer-in-Training Program:
- Learn about the peer-review process
- Gain experience critically reviewing manuscripts
- Network with CJNS associate editors and editorial board members
Responsibilities:
- Screen three manuscripts per year and participate in deciding whether the manuscripts should be sent out for peer-review
- Review three manuscripts under the supervision of a CJNS associate editor
- Participate in final manuscript acceptance or rejection decision if revisions are requested
- Reviewers-in-Training will be invited to the annual CJNS editorial board meeting, usually coinciding with the Canadian Neurological Sciences Federation (note: attendance is not mandatory, but recommended)
Term: One year with one option to renew for one additional year
Criteria for application:
- Senior residents (PGY 3 and above) or fellows registered in a Canadian training program
- Medical students and junior residents (PGY 1-2) may apply if they have prior graduate studies training or have 2 peer-reviewed publications
- Membership with the Canadian Neurological Sciences Federation (Become a Member | CNSF)
- Written support by your program director

- PDF copy of a 'Letter' from your Program Director, indicating that they support your participation in the CJNS Reviewer-in-Training Program
Deadline for submissions is December 31, 2024. Successful applicants will be notified in early February 2025.
